We are in the process of developing the whole area in front of you into a “Natural Space” to experience nature in an urban setting. The site is approximately 19 acres.

The project is a collaboration between the Town of Carstairs and the Carstairs and District Agricultural Society. The Town of Carstairs has been working on the site for many years. The formal committee was formed in 2018. Development with carry on for several years as funds are raised and donated allow.

Most species of trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials will be native or have been naturalized to Central Alberta.

Activities you can enjoy at the Carstairs Nature Space

  • All seasons activities including walking the many trails, snowshoeing and tobogganing
  • Tree and Plant Species Education
  • Agricultural and Food Education
  • Natural Playground

The planning committee will initiate planned projects as funding supports. Generally, each spring planting will be done, structural development will continue through the summer and additional planting will be done in the fall. This will be a long-term living project that will bring years of enjoyment for many in the community.

Donations of $100 and more will receive permanent recognition and a charitable tax receipt; if desired these donations will also receive recognition on the Carstairs Nature Space page of the Ag Society website.

THANK YOU Inga, Murray, and Family!!!

Thanks to Inga Owens, her late husband Murray and their family for a very generous donation to the Carstairs Nature Space. They have been life long environmental stewards and saw the long term benefit this park could provide to the community of Carstairs. We will be planting about 280 trees of significant size that will make up three large areas with walkways between them. As well there will be dozens of smaller accent bushes planted from the donation.

Thank you to our corporate donors
